HO-LEE-CRAP!

The Dow lost nearly 780 points today!  That's the biggest drop in the history of the stock market at a whopping 7% of the total market value.  Only September 17th, 2001 (first market day after 9/11) even comes close, at 684 points.

I'm almost afraid to log on to my brokerage and see how I personally did.  Wowza!

I'm elated that it failed.  Sure, it will be tough for awhile, but that bailout was socialism at its finest.

The very most basic tenet of capitalism is that every man has the right to "hang out their shingle," but that they alone are responsible for the success or failure of their business.  Asking the government to free banks of their business obligations is completely unacceptable.

The financial industry made a greedy gamble when it offered loans to individuals that had absolutely no business obtaining a mortgage, and they lost.  If those companies made too big a bet on that sector of the market, they deserve to go out of business - even if the rest of the market suffers because of it.

I'm a strong proponent of the "laissez faire" economic doctrine, and I won't sell out my principles just so my own investments are spared a turbulent ride.  America simply can't afford to take on a trillion dollars in debt.  It's unaffordable, and its un-American.

I lost over $500 in the market yesterday. But it's all good, I made $600 at the strip club.

LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A double murderer who says he's too fat to be executed humanely passed a pre-execution exam Tuesday and was cleared to receive a lethal injection.

Richard Cooey, 41, was given a detailed examination, and prison staff found a viable vein in both arms to deliver the deadly chemicals, Department of Corrections spokeswoman Andrea Carson said.

The 5-foot-7, 267-pound Cooey had tried to avoid execution by arguing that his obesity would prevent humane lethal injection because viable veins in his arms are hard to find.

Cooey is scheduled to die for killing two college students in 1986. He spent most of the night sitting on his bed and pacing quietly in his cell, Carson said. He fell asleep at 4:06 a.m., woke at 5:20 a.m. and did not ask for breakfast.

He later met with an attorney and a spiritual adviser.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday denied one of two pending appeals to stop the execution. It turned down without comment Cooey's claim that his obesity was a bar to humane lethal injection. The argument also had been rejected by a federal appeals court in Cincinnati and the Ohio Supreme Court, with both courts ruling that he missed a deadline for filing appeals.

Cooey was still waiting for a ruling on his appeal of the Ohio Supreme Court's dismissal Monday of his complaint that the state's protocol for lethal injection could cause an agonizing and painful death. He wanted the state to use a single drug rather than a three-drug combination, and asked for a stay of execution pending a hearing on that motion.

Cooey is 75 pounds heavier than when he went to death row — the result of prison food and 23-hour-a-day confinement, his lawyers said.

Should have told him he wasn't too fat to be shot.

Admittedly, 5'7" and 267lbs is pretty beefy, but its not like he's morbidly obese.  Just shoot him and let it be done with.

Crichton … NEW YORK – The family of Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of such historic and prehistoric science fantasies as "Jurassic Park," "Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," says the author has died in Los Angeles.

Crichton died Tuesday at age 66. He had been privately battling cancer, his family said.

"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement.

Wow it seems too soon for this great author to pass away.  I loved just about every book he wrote and was glad he was an outspoken critic of the global warming craze.

TV suicide wife: Why I want the world to watch my husband's death
By Chris Brooke and Paul Revoir

The harrowing moment a retired university professor dies in an 'assisted suicide' will be shown on television tonight.

Craig Ewert, 59, is filmed turning off his ventilator and taking a lethal dose of drugs washed down with apple juice.

Just minutes before his death, Mary, his wife of 37 years asks him: 'Can I give you a big kiss?' She adds: 'I love you sweetheart so much. Have a safe journey and see you some time.'
The end: The moment motor neurone sufferer Craig Ewert, 59, switches off his ventilator at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, Mary, 59, explained why she wanted the world to share his dying moment, she said: 'The film is a wonderful tribute to my husband. I have absolutely no regrets about agreeing to leave the camera rolling as Craig died. It's what we both wanted.
'The only time I asked the film crew to leave was around 30 minutes after Craig had died. I needed to cry and I wanted to do that alone.

'If this film gets people thinking about death and talking about it, that's all that Craig would have wished.
'The film examines the process of death. Craig wanted to get the message across, "Look, this is what death is like. It's not scary."
'Craig believe in honesty about everything. To honestly show what it looks like to die will, hopefully, help wipe away people's terrors.
'We were both convinced that controversial issues - such as showing someone dying on TV - are only controversial because there's such a taboo surrounding them.'

Any thoughts on this?  I think this is one step closer to a "RUNNING MAN" game show!  Let's resurrect Richard Dawson to host it!

If some guy wants to videotape his own death, I guess that's his (incredibly morbid) choice.

Showing it on television?  That's something else altogether.

Quote:
A team of Japanese scientists have created a device that enables the processing and imaging of thoughts and dreams as experienced in the brain to appear on a computer screen.

While researchers have so far only created technology that can reproduce simple images from the brain, the discovery paves the way for the ability to unlock people's dreams and other brain processes.

A spokesman at ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories said: "It was the first time in the world that it was possible to visualise what people see directly from the brain activity.

"By applying this technology, it may become possible to record and replay subjective images that people perceive like dreams." The scientists, lead by chief researcher Yukiyaso Kamitani, focused on the image recognition procedures in the retina of the human eye.

Their methodology means that they would have to show people an image, analyze what the brain does when perceiving the image, and then display the image. So it isn't really what it says it is, but its certainly heading there. Scary, very scary.
