Extended Forum Downtime - House Move!

The forum will be going offline sometime Wednesday evening.  The moving company will arrive Thursday morning to move all of our furniture, and this includes the network rack that routes all of the forum traffic.

The forum won't be back up until at least Friday evening, but it could be as last as next week depending on how long it takes Comcast to get to the house to hook up my cable Internet service.  I'll have an ETA by this afternoon and I'll let you guys know whats up!

Since I have a business account with them, they are normally fairly quick about repairing my stuff.  Hopefully, they'll also be fairly quick with relocating my stuff.  Honestly, I've forgotten how long it took them to relocate my service from the house I rented to the apartment, but I don't remember it being an issue.

Of course, that was also two years ago...

One of the upsides to buying a house is that I won't have to worry about my service going down as much.  Every time my service went down over the past two years, it was because some idiot residential technician accidentally disconnected my service (or the entire complex) when he was installing or disconnecting a neighbor's service.  I won't have to worry about that at the house.

As of 11:55pm Thursday evening, all of my equipment is back up and running - except my Internet connection.  If you're reading this post, obviously I've gotten it back up and running sometime in the interim!

Pictures soon!

Comcast wins again!  Only two full weeks between the time I called and the time they managed to get a technician out for the installation!

As you can see, the forum is back up and running.  In all their genius, Comcast decided to assign a new static IP to me (again) instead of moving my existing one to the new location, so some people might not be able to reach the forum for a few hours.  Why can't DNS propagation be a wee bit faster?

I've got to run a permanent ethernet cable through the wall from the second story to the basement, so there might be a couple minutes of downtime later tonight.  The temporary cable is just spooled all the way down the stairs and across the basement.  Cleanliness?  Pssht!

You're not the only one!  Do you know how hard it is to go an entire week without the Interwebs?  I thought I was going to shrivel up and die!

You missed so much during the time you were gone Bob.

Stock market dropped 400 points.
Yahoo is getting taken over again.
The new iphone is coming out
Steve Jobs is trying to take over the world
Clinton Lost

Imagine all the forums that you'll missing also

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Trust me, I'm keenly aware of the stock market drop that occurred today.  I've got a few shares of NCC (National City) that took one heck of a hit today.  They dropped almost 8% in a single freakin' day because the Office of the Comptroller put them under a Memorandum of Understanding.  Having worked for a much-smaller bank that was operating under a similar situation, I can tell you that it isn't very pretty.

Fortunately, APIO (API Nanotronics) gained a penny today, which for a $0.13 stock is a pretty decent climb.  I've got a ton of shares in APIO, so it helped me break nearly even on a really, really rough day.  I only lost about $4.00 today, but I would really lost my butt if it wasn't for APIO!

Steve Jobs is nothing new, and the new iPhone is just the "old" iPhone with a couple meaningless features and a smaller package.  Whoop-de-doo.

Clinton "losing" isn't really a surprise, but her announcement of her desire to run as Obama's VP was.  That was completely unexpected and is probably worth a thread of its own.  Both of those socialists can blow me.

Yahoo's "takeover" isn't really anything new.  Icahn (who can also blow me) is just trying to make a buck by forcing Yahoo into a merger with Microsoft.  I'm going to laugh my butt off if he fails, because Yahoo's stock will take a serious swan-dive if Microsoft refuses to return to the bargaining table.
