Hey everyone, I'm looking for a little advice here.  Recently my guild on World of Warcraft... I'll wait while you all finish snickering... has decided to begin expanding and I've been looking into web hosting and domain name registration.

This is my first time researching this kind of thing and to be honest, I'm pretty clueless as to what I should be looking for so I've come looking for advice.   What I need is simple web hosting with forums, domain name registration, and some e-mail hosting.

Do any of you have suggestions who I should host with?  I've checkd out go-daddy, lunarpages, and ipower.  All of them seem good, but I don't want to jump into one of them without knowing exactly what I'm getting into.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you really want to impress your WoW friends, just get a static IP and host it yourself.  If you need any help getting it set up, just let me know!

I use GKG.Net exclusively for my domain name registration and ZoneEdit.org for DNS hosting for all four of my domains, as well as my employer's domains.  I've never used GKG's web hosting, but if its anything like their other services, I'm sure it's absolutely top notch.  I've been with them for years and have never had a single hiccup.

You can't just stop playing wow...you have to go to one of its sister drugs first and slowly drop off!

Thanks Bob, I think I'm gonna go with GKG.  I don't have the bandwidth nor the stability to host it myself and their web hosting package seems really nice.

Have you picked out forum software yet?  Please, for the love of all that is holy, avoid PHPbb.  It's the devil.

Did you got with Windows or Linux-based hosting?

I concur.  It's a heck of a lot easier to run complex web services (like forums) on a Windows platform.  Of course, the management aspects are also much simpler if you run your own box, but that's largely irrelevant with a hosted solution.
