I haven't seen anything confirming his casted role yet.  No one had any idea he was even TALKING about being in the new trilogy until this morning when it was announced with the rest of the cast (all of whom had pretty much been leaked).

Something seems very, very fishy about this.  They just raised $16k a few months ago for a complete end-to-end external code audit.  Can't wait to see what comes of this.

Still no definitive word on what happened to TrueCrypt.  Right now, the community seems torn 50/50 between thinking the project was hijacked by malicious parties and this being a "canary" in which the project team is trying to tell the community the software has been compromised by government authorities.  Can't wait to see how this will play out.

The Turing test was successfully beaten this week by a group of Russian researchers.  This is a really big deal.  I can't wait to get my hands on the source code!

Some folks working with NASA have released a mockup of what a real warp-capable starship might look like.  This is based on the theoretical warp technology NASA is working on, which is a spinoff of the Alcubierre drive.

I need to read into this because I was under the impression that an Alcubierre Drive, while theoretically possible, was basically impossible due to energy problems.

And by energy problems I mean it would take the energy of our Sun to go anywhere meaningful lol.

Still, that thing looks hella cool.

Last I heard, the guy working on the Alcubierre drive for NASA had gotten the power requirements down from the the output of the sun to the sum total of Jupiter.  His #1 goal is to drive it down even further until it is within the realm of feasibility.
