FarCry 2 will be released on Steam at noon today.  I'm thinking about ordering it at work this morning and starting the download right at noon.

But, I'm not sure if I want to throw down $45.00 on it.

Decisions, decisions.

It looks like a BioShock sequel is on the way.  A new trailer was just released yesterday.

http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/142/14240341/vids_1.html

I don't see it on GameTrailers.com yet, but I'll post a link there once it is up.

Just out of curiosity Stick, what server do you play on and what is your character name?

I've been thinking of rolling up a Dest character to try out, mine as well do it on a server where I know someone.

Here's my super, super preliminary review of FarCry 2.  I only got to play it for about 35 minutes last night, but it's definitely promising.

I can best describe FarCry 2 as a combination of Grand Theft Auto and Oblivion.  It definitely has the go-anywhere-anytime feel of Oblivion, but the mayhem is closer to GTA than anything else.  The graphics are beautiful, but not on par with the jaw-dropping visuals of Crysis and Crysis: Warhead.

The gameplay is pretty good so far, but there are a couple of annoyances.  You're inflicted with Malaria right off the bat and have to seek medicine constantly, which drives the plot along a more linear path than I'd like.  Hopefully that element will end soon enough so I can have a bit more freedom to blow crap up.

The physics engine is quite good, and the fire effects are incredible.  The game word is 50km², and I'm fairly certain you can get a couple square kilometers of it to go up in flames if you're determined enough.

The NPC AI is incredible.  If you shoot an enemy in the foot, they'll hop around clutching their foot in pain.  If you shoot them in the knee, they'll drop to the ground in agony.  It's very satisfying in a sadistic sort of way.

More later!

Well currently I'm playing on Heldenhammer, my character name is Beldagin.

The server is having population problems (as Mythic opened to many damn servers at launch).  So we might be transfering or some such next week.  But thats the info for now.

Bob, I know youre going to get Fallout 3. Can you post a review up after you've played it a bit? I have read a few, and it sounds awesome, but I cannot stand Bethesda's animators. Bethesda characters are lifeless and zombie-like and the absurd normal mapping they put on the characters just reinforces the plastic stiff look.

But reviews say its pretty in depth and a fun game, so I don't know if the bad animations will take away from it all.  Anyway if anyone has played it, let me know.

thanks

But the game has zombie-like people so they will be "zombie-like".

Bob, I know youre going dying to get Fallout 3.

Fixed it for you.

I'm stuck in DC and have no way to play Fallout 3.  All I've got is a tablet PC, so I doubt I could even get the splash screen to show (although I'm contemplating it anyway).

I'm going to do the same thing I did with FarCry 2.  I'll buy the game Friday morning and start streaming it from Steam, so it should be ready for me by the time I get back to Michigan on Friday evening.  I'll definitely post a review and some pictures later that night.  It's been several years since Bethesda released Oblivion, is it possible their animations have improved?

The only thing I can play on this darned tabled is Peggle, and that game is Ghey with a capital G.  Do you guys have any recommendations for other "minimal" games that are laptop/tablet friendly?

To add insult to injury, I opened up my complimentary copy of USA Today at the hotel yesterday morning to find a full-page, full-color advertisement for Fallout 3.  I thought it wqas ironic that the wrecked husk of the Capitol Building was on the front page, since I just saw the Capitol Building in person for the first time the previous day.
