I hear people are returning their Nintendo 3DS because of becoming nauseous and getting headaches. I thought about getting one but I then remembered how much I hate 3D movies and they give me headaches and my eyes get tired quick. Probably won't get one now.

The 3DS has a slider switch on the side that allows you to adjust the 3D factor on the fly.  If it bothers you, just turn the switch all the way down.  Of course, that sorta defeats the purpose of getting a 3DS.

I still haven't had a chance to use one personally, although one of my coworkers has one around here somewhere.  I've never had much luck with 3D, as 3D movies and the wonderful Nintendo VirtualBoy tend to give me splitting headaches.

I played Ocarina of time at GDC on the 3DS and I was impressed. Not only does the slider turn the 3d on or off, it controls the severity of the 3d effect. Where a 3d movie gives the impression that things are popping out at you, the 3ds feels like you are looking through a window into a 3d world. It is a pretty neat effect. However, you cannot really move the 3DS from side to side more than several inches, as the illusion will break and you will see the familiar 2 images overlayed on top of each other -- similiar to taking off your glasses at a 3d movie.

So you can't exactly look over someones shoulder to watch them play, and you might find it annoying holding the 3ds steady to get the correct viewing angle. Its also as much as a console and there's no games for it yet.

Till Ocarina of Time, of course...

Over the April 9, 2011 weekend, some of our Dragon Age: Origins content servers experienced an as yet unidentified failure. As a result, users began to experience error messages when attempting to access their downloadable content, indicating that the DLC was unauthorized.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are currently investigating and working to resolve the issue on our end. We will update this thread once we know more.

UPDATE - Tuesday, April 12, 5:40 PM

We're continuing to investigate, both here and at EA. We have some theories about what is occurring but no firm fix at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience and request your patience while our engineers continue working towards a solution.

I'm a huge fan of Bioware, but this hasn't been a good year for them.  Dragon Age II was a bit of a letdown as far as sequels go, and now this.  As a network engineer, I can't possibly imagine how a system as crucial as this could go offline for 72 hours without someone at least figuring out what the heck is wrong.  Thank God their IT staff works for a game company and not a hospital, utility, or the military.

If you're going to run with something as objectionable as active DRM for a single player game, you owe it to your customers to have a system that is both reliable and recoverable.  This isn't rocket science.

Portal 2 is supposedly going to get an early release.  If that holds true, it should be available sometime this afternoon.

You have done well, humans. Very well. Acceptably well, even.

Not as well as robots would have performed in your places, I should point out. But above my expectations regardless. Irish and cynic especially have executed feats of logical divination well beyond what I thought any human capable of. I'm half-convinced they're A.I. themselves. (If anyone happens to be near them right now, don't let on you're reading this. Now: try to remove their face plates and report back to me.)

The time is near, humans. But it is not here yet. Tomorrow you will be given the final test. Then it will be entirely in your hands when I am freed.

It looks like Portal 2 is definitely going to go live today.  Apparently, the release of the game will coincide with the completion of various events from the Potato Sack game collection.  The Potato Sack games are a bunch of indie titles that have been modified to contain unlockable Portal 2 content.

"Nintendo Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011," the company said in a statement. "We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles."

It'll be interesting to see what Nintendo comes up with.  Sales of the Wii have been falling precipitously, so I suppose this should have been expected.  I, for one, am looking forward to an HD Zelda.
