Most games I play, I know nothing about the story unless they force feed it down my throat. All I know is, I want to see some cool looking art and destroy it.

You don't really need to know about D1 and 2 to enjoy Diablo 3 Patsy.  It wouldn't hurt, but you defiantely won't notice it.  Most of Diablo is about killing lots of shit Wink

The login thing isn't that bad, and its cool that you can play with other people, buy gear on the auction house, and see your friends and chat with them.  Now that they have fixed their broken ass server compacity issues, I haven't had much issue at all.

Yeah, it's been pretty much flawless the last few days.  I'm up to level 47, pushing hard for 60.  After that, it's time to start farming Legendary equipment!

Just finished Diablo 3 on Normal.  Was a pretty epic finish.  Made it to 32 before taking down Diablo, solo, without dying.  I think Bob might be going a little light on the Vitality side of the game Wink

I'm not sure where I was when I finished Normal, but I just had to completely re-spec my character to make him less squishy.  I died seven or eight times trying to kill the butcher on Hell.  I compared my specs to another wizard with 22,000HP - I had 6,200.  ;-/

I've been giving up Magic Find in favor of vitality, and I boosted it to 11,300 with just two items.  I'm hoping to be in the 15k range with a few more items.

I was doing almost the same DPS as you at the end of normal act 4 (with magic weapon on).  And I have a lot of vitality gear.  I had 4500 health.  I'd grouped with another wizard in act 3 who only had 700 health.

I think a lot of people overlook how much vitality seems to make a difference.

Left Click - Magic Missle (increased dmg rune)
Right Click  Disintegrate (Wider beam rune)
1 - Frost Nova (Cold Snap Rune (9 sec cooldown)
2 - Diamond Skin (Crystal Shell increased absorb rune)
3 - Magic Weapon (15% dmg rune)
4 - Hydra (Arcane Rune)

I made it to Inferno yesterday.  Absolutely, positively, mind-bogglingly difficult.  You know the crap zombie mobs that appear in the very beginning of the game?  They hit me for about 12,500 damage.  The epic and champion packs are pretty much unbeatable, even with an excellent four-person team.  I'm definitely going to have to grind on Hell to farm gold for better equipment.

This is my preferred method of playing on Inferno difficulty:

In related news, here's a very interesting post from Blizzard about planned updates for the next patch.  They're fairly substantial updates, including a reduction in gem combination prices and materials, a reduction in blacksmith upgrade costs, and a buff to the power of Legendary items, among others.

Good thing I've already spent all my gold on gems and blacksmith upgrades...  Roll Eyes

I've having a hard time auctioning my unwanted rare items. What price points are you guys targeting?

In case any of you were wondering, the stability of the Diablo servers is still questionable.  I picked up a copy for Mere last night and got it installed this afternoon.  I was going to run her through the basics tonight, but guess what - servers are down.  I tried playing on lunch today, but guess what - servers were down.

As a network engineer, the magic number for infrastructure uptime is "five nines," or 99.999% uptime.  That number is difficult to achieve, but with the right design (and budget) it is an approachable goal.  I don't necessarily expect a video game to have 99.999% uptime, but I'm somewhat convinced that Blizzard's infrastructure folks are borderline incompetent.  The game has been out for two weeks, how could this not be ironed out yet?

Blizzard is just terrible with customer management, they simply do not give a fuck if they inconvenience you.  They have millions and millions of people playing WoW, Starcraft and Diablo, so who gives a shit right.

The best part is all of the fanboys on the Diablo 3 forums talking about how the launch wasn't that bad.

Star Wars the Old Republic had only .2% downtime in their first week of operation.  And it was scheduled maintenance.  Bioware used these fancy things called login que's and inactivity kicks to prevent their servers from taking massive shits.

Yeah you had to wait 10 minutes to login at prime time Friday night, but 10 minutes is better than constant server down time.

Once you pile on the marketing, it sounds much better, because "there is no single player"!  It's just a private session in which you play by yourself.

I bet you feel better already!

I tried to jump onto the Auction House today during lunch, but the servers were down.  Yay, Blizzard!

Since I've wasted entirely too much of the last two weeks on Diablo, Bethesda is rescuing me with the announcement of the first Skyrim expansion, Dawnguard:

Sadly, it won't be available until the ambiguous date of "Summer", and the XBox will get it 30 days before PC and PS3.
