Well I did it...I started my first MMO.  It's Star War - TOR.  I'm about 2 hours in and it's ok.  I'm still getting up to everything.  I've never been a WADS controller and key binding is a bit different than the action stop of KOTOR 1 and 2.  Anyone else play or playing it?  Any tips?

I'm pretty much playing it for the storyline right now, although I'm not sure I'm going to do more than that.  But like any drug...I'll have to monitor its uses and effects.

I have a max level Jedi Councilor and a Imperial Agent.  The game was fun but it got boring at the end.  Not a problem if you are just playing the FTP leveling process.

It looks like Final Fantasy VII is coming to Steam.  That was unexpected...

I have got to have one of these!  A company called Hyperkin is developing an NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis all-in-one system with HDMI out and cross-region compatibility.  I can't wait to buy one of these bad boys!

Anyone bought the new Sim City?  I really want to but I just don't have the extra cash right now (not after buying Tomb Raider and the Dead Space trilogy in the last 3 weeks!).

Anyways, I'm hearing a lot of bad things about the "always online" feature....any of you playing and have an opinion?

This is purely second-hand, but sounds a lot like the Diablo 3 launch.  The authentication servers have been crushed by the influx of new players, thus preventing many buyers from playing a single-player game.

Outside of the authentication issue (which, admittedly, should be resolved quickly), reviews have been mixed.  My news outlet of choice, Ars Technica, published a scathing article that had very few good things to say about the game.  The complaint that worried me the most was about the tiny size of the maps.  Apparently, the land masses are only a fraction of the size permitted in previous titles.

I'm a huge city-building nerd, but it looks like I'm going to pass on this one.  It looks like I'm stuck with Cities XL for a little while longer!

I've also heard that basically being forced to rely on real people as your neighbors to supply certain aspects of your city to you can be challenging when they just delete their city out of the blue.  Leaving you with no police, oil, groceries, waste disposal or whatever you were using them for.

And before you say "just play by yourself", from everything I have heard, that is impossible.

Here's an interesting perspective from a football player that is an avid gamer in his spare time.  As with most reviews I've read, he absolutely slams EA for their crappy network infrastructure and the always-on DRM requirement.

http://www.businessinsider.com/chris-kluwes-simcity-5-review-2013-3

One report earlier today said SimCity is on track to be the worst rated product of all time on Amazon.  Niiiice!

Soooo, carrying the pi, we see that EA is already out 5,000 more sales than if they had just created a normal, single player offline capable game with multiplayer components.

Ha ha...this article was great.  I hope to see more written by him.  Nice to see a football player without an addled brain.

I really never understood the concept of changing a beloved series, into a new format?  I mean were there TONS of people sending Maxis e-mails about how they wanted smaller city maps and the inability to play by themselves?

If you have a game that sells like hot cakes, and you haven't released a new one in TEN years...Leave it the hell alone.

The spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment is currently on KickStarter.  The KickStarter still has 20 days to go and has already reached ~300% of their funding goal.  Nonetheless, this is a great way to get your copy cheap for an early investment!

If you've never played Planescape: Torment, it is hands-down one of the best CRPGs ever made.  It is universally loved for the incredible character development, storyline, and the deep impact of player decisions on the way the story plays out.

Wow, this just keeps getting better and better.  I honestly think EA has managed to beat Diablo III for the worst launch of all time.
