Tesla announced today it is dropping all of its patents applying to their electrical vehicles.  The company's engineering is now effectively open source.

Here's some interesting new car technology.  Hyundai is pairing their automatic emergency braking system (a device that helps prevent collisions when a car in front of you rapidly brakes) with the vehicle's GPS to automatically reduce your speed to the speed limit when passing by traffic cameras.  I'm not sure how useful this would be in the United States where most of our speed enforcement is still done by police officers instead of static cameras, but it's still pretty nifty.

I found it odd too that it's coming in graphic novel form.  Don't really understand why.  I read FC and it was enjoyable on it's own (even after seeing the movie).

Admittedly, I'm somewhat dubious of a system that seems to rely on visual aids like lines in the road and speed limit signs.  Around here, we have plenty of streets that either don't have lines at all or they're badly faded.  Moreover, if this system actually reads speed limit signs instead of using GPS location for those signs, what happens when the sign is obscured or illegible?
